ダンスって、一度キッカケがあって見始めると、見ざるを得ない魅力というか、魔力があるわね(笑)。高校時代は私もサブカルキッズの例外にもれず、寺山修二、唐十郎、渋澤龍彦を随分と読んでいたわ。だけどある時唐さんが私の地元・仙台でテント公演をやって、初めて観たときに、「靴は靴袋に入れる」とか「定番曲」とか、決まり事や説明が多すぎてガッカリしたの。自由に解釈することがあんまり出来ない気がして、もう演劇は観られないなぁって。結果、もっと抽象性の高いモダンダンスであったり暗黒舞踏であったり・・・、次第にそちらへ移行していったのね。 演劇は脚本を肉体で演じるものだと思うけど、ダンスの場合は肉体が何かを表すのではなく肉体表現そのものが重要でしょう? 背景にある何かを説明するためではなく、そのもの自身に価値がある点が、特殊なアートだと思うわ。ほかにも、絵画だったら「絵の具」「キャンバス」、建築だったら「建材」のような素材が必要だけど、ダンスは唯一の素材が「肉体」なんだから、普通の芸術とは違うわね。映像で同じ舞台を観ても意味がないというか、その場に居合わせないと感じ得ないことが多くて、当時はダンスや舞踏に夢中になったわね。

オーストリアの哲学者カール・ポパーの反証主義の命題「黒鳥」から作られた作品。いままで英語圏では「スワンは白い鳥」と受け入れられていたが、オーストリアで黒いスワンが発見された。その事により最初の命題が覆された。反証例が出て来ることで、それらが反証されるか反証されないか事実認定の問題。起きた原因を後知恵解釈しかできない事象を"Black Swan"と名付けている。ポパーはフロイトなど精神分析には批判的だったようだけれども、この作品は思いっきり精神分析的な表現が表に出ているわ。馬の縫いぐるみや幼児的な行動は個々の特別な事例なのか、一般的なモノなのか、考えさせられるわ。歌舞伎町にも「黒鳥の湖」というショウパブがあるわ。その「黒鳥」のイメージは「白鳥」の中に居れば異物として映るけれど、現実のなかでその存在を認めることで、異物が劣等的なもしくはマイノリティーな存在ではなく、特別は唯一無二なものにもなり得るわ。もしくは沢山の白い白鳥もどれひとつ同じものはないと言う事にも気が付くかもしれない。
