Prior to the release of "Gifts from Herb & Dorothy" released from 3/30, we will perform a special screening of "Herb & Dorothy" of the previous work in Sarava Tokyo twice.
It is a story of a couple who has been able to buy with their salary, is a work entering their own one-room apartment, a couple who has continued to buy works mainly for minimal art for more than 50 years alone. Their number of works exceeds 2000 points, and we will follow the project to donate them all to the National Gallery. Her husband was postal staff, his wife Dorothy continued to work as a library staff and was determined from the desire to repay the nation. Their work is now regarded as a very important work group and is said to be a legacy of contemporary art. Also they are full of interesting images such as the encounter of the couple and the testimony from the artists with exchange. . .
Relationship between art and living.
Relationship between art and collector.
Relationship between collector and artist, museum, gallery.
Relationship between individuals and public institutions.
This movie gives us a chance to tell the relationship lying in between them, thinking about it.
What is "art"? What is "artist"? What is "living"?
It is a very moving work.
Those who have not seen it yet. And if you want to see it again before the sequel, do not miss this opportunity !!!!!
