The key to new commercial facilities is the use of rooftop space

In Shibuya this fall and winter, “Shibuya Square” on November 1st, “Shibuya Parco” on 22nd, “Tokyu Plaza Shibuya (within Shibuya Fukura)” on December 5th and large commercial facilities will open one after another, It is showing a big crowd.

``SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE'' takes advantage of the convenience of being located on the station, targeting adults with a selection of products that combine sensitivity and grade, and `` Shibuya PARCO '' has a subculture floor such as Nintendo's directly managed shop, Pokemon Center and a mysterious and obscene atmosphere Enhance the underground food floor and develop challenging attempts like never before. In addition, Tokyu Plaza Shibuya is a youth town in Shibuya, and has created a unique color that devised a target and tenant leasing for each facility.

On the other hand, what is shared among the three buildings is the utilization of “rooftop space”.

The rooftop space is not unusual nowadays, but after the war, there was no other tall building in Tokyo, which became a burning field, and the "department rooftop", which can be seen far away, was one of entertainment. Speaking of Shibuya, it is the roof of the Tokyu Toyoko store East Building (built in 1934, 7 floors above ground). Around 1946, many people will know that the aerial cable car "Hibari-go" was operating as an attraction for children by connecting the roofs of the East Building and the Taden Building (now the Tokyu Department Store West Building). . This is one of the best examples of using the rooftop as a playground.

▲ The rooftop amusement park of “Tokyu Department Store East Building (already demolished)” which closed on March 31, 2013

Later, during the period of high economic growth, “amusement parks” opened one after another on the roof of a department store, turning the department store into a leisure spot. Eating a children's lunch at a department store restaurant and playing at a rooftop amusement park ... It's not an exaggeration to say that this is exactly the sight of a longing-for-year-old family leisure like drawing a picture of "Showa's happiness". However, the rooftop amusement park, which was so prosperous, is going away with the end of Showa. This is due to the rise of home video games and the revision of the Fire Service Law, which has made it necessary to secure half of the rooftop area as an evacuation area, making it impossible to install large playground equipment. One day, the number of department stores and commercial facilities that close the unprofitable rooftops will increase, and at the same time, our interest in the rooftops will diminish.

| A new proposal to enjoy scrambled intersections from directly above

Decades later, the spotlight on the “rooftop” again in Shibuya was the timing of the massive renewal of “109MEN'S” to “MAGNET by SHIBUYA109” in April 2018.

The rooftop space, which had not been open to the public until then, has been opened as an observatory “CROSSING VIEW”. This is because despite the fact that many tourists from home and abroad visit to see the "Shibuya Scramble Crossing" every day, there has never been any tourist content to enjoy it more. Therefore, the magnet will focus on a good location overlooking the Shibuya Scramble Crossing from directly above, and transform the formerly idle “rooftop space” into an “observation spot”.

It became a hot topic as an "instagram spot" that could not be seen on the ground level, and became a very popular outlook spot especially for domestic and foreign tourists.

Following the Magnet, which is about 30 meters above ground, the SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE East Building, which opened on November 1, this year, has a Shibuya Sky, an observation space with a rooftop space about 230 meters above ground, the highest peak in Shibuya. .

In contrast to the "magnet" where you can feel the appearance and movement of each person coming and going at the scramble intersection, the view from Shibuya Sky is exactly like the name of "Sky", an overwhelming high like an aerial photograph I am surprised.

▲ Rooftop space separated only by see-through glass walls. A scenic spot overlooking Tokyo city

The magnet may feel more powerful in enjoying the Shibuya Scramble Crossing from directly above. However, the attraction of Shibuya Sky is, above all, a “360-degree panoramic view” overlooking the entire city of Tokyo.
▲ You can also see facilities that are thriving in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, such as Yoyogi Park and the New National Stadium, from directly above

I think many people have already climbed, but since the walls surrounding the rooftop space are all glass, there is nothing obstructing the view, and you can feel the mysterious floating feeling as if you are walking in the sky.
▲ You can enjoy the searchlight and night view of Tokyo at night. Countdown on New Year's Eve and first sunrise event on New Year's Day

On the 31st of New Year's Eve, there will be a countdown event that will be held for the first time in Shibuya Sky (22:00 to 2:00 the following day), and the first sunrise business (5:30 to 8:00) on New Year's Day. It is not bad to count on the countdown at the Shibuya Scramble intersection, which is crowded with many people, literally with Takami's spectators.

| "Shibuya PARCO rooftop" where you can walk up a three-dimensional street from the road surface

There is also a "rooftop space" at Shibuya Parco, which opened on November 22nd.
▲ The appearance of the new Shibuya PARCO that opened on November 22. There is a rooftop in the middle section

The building has commercial floors on the 1st basement floor to 8th and 10th floors above ground, and a Digital Garage Group office on 10th floor and 12th to 18th floors. PARCO's rooftop space is not the top floor, but is located on the 10th floor of the middle floor, which is the border between the commercial and office floors.
▲ A rooftop park full of greenery

This space, called the rooftop garden "ROOFTOP PRAK", consists of a planting space and deck where lawns and trees are planted.
▲ The outer corridor spirals from the road surface to the roof

A “three-dimensional street” is spirally set up along the building from the first floor on the side of the hill, and you can walk up to the rooftop from the road surface without going through the building. It might be fun to climb Parco Mountain with the feeling of trekking, aiming for the rooftop.

In contrast to SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE on the 47th floor, the PARCO rooftop space on the 10th floor may be inferior if you just listen to the numbers. However, because it is located on a hill on Koen-dori Street, you can overlook the city of Shibuya in the form of looking down at the station, and you can enjoy a different scenery of Shibuya.

| Shibuniwa, a relaxing and luxurious rooftop space

Tokyu Plaza Shibuya's rooftop garden “SHIBU NIWA” has also been born on the rooftop space (17th and 18th floors) of “Shibuya Fukuras”, which opened on the site of the former Tokyu Plaza.

It also has an entertainment restaurant “CÉ LA VI” (Selavi), which is popular in Singapore, Taiwan, France, etc. The space consists of public spaces and restaurants.
▲ "Selavi" features a circular terrace, and "Sibuniwa" is a public space in the foreground.

▲ Sofas and chairs are installed on the 18th floor, so you can enjoy the view of Shibuya in a relaxed atmosphere

Tables and chairs are set up in the public space on the 17th floor, which is heavily planted. Sofas, furniture and hammocks are installed on the 18th floor, providing a relaxing and luxurious space.
From the 17th floor, you can see the inside (east) of the JR YAMANOTE LINE, such as Shibuya Station West Exit, SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE, Roppongi and Tokyo Tower.
▲ 18-story covered space with planting inspired by a Japanese garden and modern furniture

▲ You can also see Mt.Fuji covered with white snow this season

On the other hand, from the 18th floor, the view outside (west) of the JT YAMANOTE LINE, such as Dogenzaka or Nanpeidai junction, is open, so you can meet Mt. Fuji on a sunny day.

SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE rooftop space "Shibuya Sky" (2,000 yen on the day) and the magnet roof observatory "CROSSING VIEW" (600 yen entrance fee) are charged, but the rooftops of Shibuya Parco and Shibuya Fukuras are public spaces. I'm glad I can always go up for free. It's a bit daunting to go to the rooftop space for the winter, but the spectacular views will surely make the cold fly away. I hope you will experience the new charm of Shibuya, where the rooftop is being used more and more along with the redevelopment.

Finally, before the Olympics next year, Miyashita Park, a rooftop park, will open.
▲ Miyashita Park under construction. A skateboard park, a climbing wall, a multi-purpose court, and an event plaza will form a park above the three-story building.

▲ Image Perspective in the Park (From “Shingushita Park and Shin-Shibuya Parking Facility Information”)

At present, a huge ring is installed in a vertical space, and the whole picture is beginning to be seen gradually. Although detailed announcements have not yet been made, it is almost impossible to keep an eye on the "rooftop" in Shibuya next year.
