Held in Shibuya was inevitable

West:I think Cook's visit to Japan has been since last fall, but has the impression of Shibuya changed?

Cook:I'm back for the first time in a year, and I'm surprised that the redevelopment has changed the city. Of course, the town has evolved through redevelopment, SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE New facilities have been made, but on the other hand, small shops have not changed, and I was happy to confirm that the soul of the town was not lost. I felt relieved because I thought it was Shibuya, including big and small things in the town.

West:Last June, Motion Plus Design Meet-Up Tokyo (Motion Plus Design Meet-Up Tokyo)Shibuya Hikarie It was decided to be held in November this year as well. The base has been moved to Shibuya since last year.

昨年、渋谷ヒカリエで開催された「Motion Plus Design's Meet-up Tokyo 2018」

Cook:It started in Paris in 2015 and made its first landing in Japan in Ebisu in 2017, two years later. The capacity was about 350 people, but one of us felt that we wanted to upgrade to about 800 people like Paris. Then, considering that I wanted to make an event where I could interact with young people, and considering the access of overseas creators and visitors, Shibuya was highly convenient, Shibuya Hikarie It could be said that the event was inevitable.

The venue is almost full. Some fans take their breath away from presentations of creators who are active in the world.

West:There was a lot to do in Shibuya.

Motion Plus Design founder Kook Ewo

Cook:There are many creators and studios in Shibuya, and there is an image of “Shibuya = creative”. Since we are an organization based on creation, we moved to Shibuya based on a comprehensive judgment. Is the venue Shibuya Hikarie The atmosphere of the space was also a good place for us to send out creative ideas.

West:What does it mean for the city to invite international conventions to Shibuya?

Higashiura:I have been in charge of Shibuya development since April this year. For the past several years, we have developed a city with the theme of “Entertainment City SHIBUYA” and have been involved in various events. I think Shibuya is an overwhelming position in Japan, and is being recognized as a unique area. So what about Shibuya from an international perspective? If you're doing video content and creation, you can say with confidence that "I'm Shibuya after all!" I personally think that “it is important to convey the uniqueness and creativeness of Shibuya to the world”, and I want to see “Shibuya is amazing!” From overseas. I feel that Motion Plus Design is an event that matches exactly that.

Creation beyond imagination on that screen

West:The second event will be held this fall. How will you evolve the event from last year?

Cook:The setup, creation and content are not so different from last year. However, this year, I have been deepening my involvement with Shibuya's towns one step and two steps, and are preparing for it, and have been discussing more closely with the members of the Japanese project team from an early stage. We can fully communicate each other's feelings about what Shibuya wants to send and what we want to send. I think that is a big evolution.

Scheduled to open on November 1 SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE In the east building, a digital digital signage with a unique shape will be newly established (left front of the photo).

Higashiura:In terms of content, this time we will have a new video contest linked to the event. Speaking of Shibuya, there is a world-famous scramble intersection, but there are a lot of digital signage around it. In other words, it can be said that the whole town is media. Opening in November this year SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE A huge digital signage with a very unique shape will also be established in Phase I (East Wing). What kind of video content will flow through this new Shibuya symbol is very important in creating value for the town. This time, we are planning to create a video content to be streamed to this digital signage through a public contest with Motion Plus Design in collaboration with Cook.

To add to the meaning of conducting a video contest, Shibuya is not a place to show finished products with a global reputation, but a city that nurtures young talents who will be responsible for the future. I think that it is something that everyone wants to hear that world-renowned creators announce something, but that alone is not like Shibuya. I think I want Shibuya to be a place where young talents fly out to the world through contests.

West:SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE What do you think about the collaboration with digital signage in the world?

Cook:The screen shape is special, the size is special, and the location is special. There will be contests and creations, and more creative works will be gathered. I'm really looking forward to applying for creations that make use of that form, beyond our imagination.

West:SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE What do you think from the standpoint of?

SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE Noriaki Takahide, President and Representative Director

Takahide:SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE It is a facility that will open in the future, so I am very grateful to have many people pay attention to it in this way. Of course, the name of the facility “Scramble” is a building near the scramble crossing, but it also means that many people interact and interact. There is a desire to create a place where something new is born and transmitted. I hope it will become a place where new cultures and movements will be born through content distribution by creators.
