“Sarugaku Bridge” replacement plan connecting Shibuya and Daikanyama

▲ Sarugaku Bridge over the YAMANOTE LINE

Currently, the Sarugaku Bridge relocation plan between JR YAMANOTE LINE and SAIKYO LINE between Shibuya Station and Ebisu is on the way to Yakanyama (city planning road auxiliary line 20) from Namikibashi intersection. It is out.

Many people may have known the name of the bridge as “Sarugaku Bridge”.

The bridge was built in 1934. It is the same year as the opening of “Tokyu Toyoko Store East Building”, which was closed and demolished in 2013 by redevelopment work in front of Shibuya Station. Since aging has progressed 85 years after completion and safety is a concern, the “Sarugaku Bridge Study Group” was organized in 2016 with a focus on experts to explore various possibilities. I went there.

The construction period and estimated project cost are estimated to be over 10 years and the estimated project cost is approximately 8 billion yen. However, there are problems with the replacement plan. Because it is a bridge over the railway, the construction is limited to a few hours from the last train to the first train that does not hinder the railway operation, and the construction is long. Meanwhile, it is expected that the bridge will be completely closed, which may have a major impact on the lives of residents and shops in the vicinity. The traffic volume of the bridge is 15,000 cars a day, 4,000 pedestrians, 1,300 bicycles, and it plays a role as an important transportation infrastructure connecting Daikanyama to Shibuya and Aoyama. It seems that it is not so easy.

At present, we are proceeding with a replacement plan, but it seems that several other methods have been examined in the study group over the past few years.

For example, “Life extension plan (reinforcement plan)” or “Temporary bridge main construction plan (plan to create a temporary bridge at a different location from the current bridge, and finally make it a permanent construction)” “Underpass plan ( "Underground passage instead of bridge)" "Abolition plan (plan to abolish further if long-term full closure)". However, the reinforcement plan is only temporary, and the temporary bridge main construction plan and the underpass plan also require a new land acquisition, so it abandons because it takes more time and cost than the replacement. Furthermore, it was concluded that there was no choice of abolition even considering the important transportation infrastructure connecting Daikanyama-Shibuya-Roppongi and the disaster prevention function.

Replacing the aging Sagaraku Bridge is almost decisive, but it is a problem for consumers who use this bridge every day. Currently, in Shibuya Ward, public comments, emails, faxes, etc. are publicly commented on the “Sarugakubashi Long-Term Plan (draft)” from Shibuya Ward residents / workers / students, businesses / corporations / organizations in Shibuya Ward, etc. We are recruiting by bringing. The deadline is until October 30th.

If you have any opinions, take this opportunity.
